8 things you might not know about me

I've been tagged by James and so, faux-reluctantly, here we go ..

(The idea is that you reveal 8 random things about yourself then tag other people who reciprocate with their own revelations)

1. I've just cleared out the "spare room" in my house in preparation for the birth of our new baby. I've thrown away and eBayed once-precious things, given masses of books to charity shops and am selling, through gritted-teeth, hundreds of 12" records. But - I've put my Technics in Mum's loft.

2. I am proud to captain the gentlemen of the Marden Russets 3rd XI hockey team many of whom are farmers. The right-winger grows blackcurrants for Ribena.

3. I can't get enough of India. Going away anywhere else always seems a compromise. The more I go, the more I want to go. It's sort of an addiction.

4. One of my clothes drawers is filled with "archived" T-shirts. It's been so long since I looked at them that I can't even remember them all. I haven't added one for a long time.

5. I love composting. And growing vegetables, but only because it's a use for my compost.

6. I've founded two businesses. The first one ran out of money before we'd finished designing our logo. The second one didn't have a logo for the first couple of years.

7. For a long time I rated friends over family. Nowadays things are more evenly balanced.

8. I grew up on a smallholding with my Mum and know a fair amount about poultry.

Thank you for sharing. I may need some composting advice soon (honest).

done it

My list feels a bit more lurid and confessional on reflection. Must be the last vestiges of Catholicism flowing through my veins.

You mention your India obsession - I meant to ask you if you'd ever been to Matheran? http://www.matheran.org/matheranpictures.htm

If not, I'd really recommend it. Two hours north of Mumbai, its a hillfort with no vehicles (blessed relief after the city), lots of very quaint hotels (we stayed in the Ritchie Rich, where monkeys kept coming in and stealing my things).

Random trivia - it is where Yann Martel wrote The Life of Pi. Worth a visit if you are in the vicinity!
